Assume the company intends to host:

  • ERP systems;
  • databases;
  • customer-facing applications;
  • virtualized environments.

The primary objective is operational continuity. In this scenario, Data Center A presents several advantages.

For organizations prioritizing business continuity, connectivity often becomes as important as power infrastructure.

Recommendation

Under this scenario, Data Center A would likely represent the most appropriate choice. Not because it is technically superior in every aspect, but because its characteristics align more closely with the business objective.

AI, GPU and High-Density Workloads

Now consider a different situation. The company plans to deploy:

  • GPU clusters;
  • AI applications;
  • machine learning environments;
  • high-performance computing workloads.

The infrastructure requirements change significantly.

Higher Power Density

Data Center B supports:

15 kW per rack compared to 8 kW per rack for Data Center A. This becomes a critical factor for modern AI workloads.

Greater Available Capacity

The facility also offers more available power and larger cooling reserves. These characteristics increase future scalability.

Recommendations

For AI-intensive workloads, Data Center B becomes the stronger candidate despite its lower redundancy profile. The ability to support denser environments may outweigh other consideration

The objective of Data Center selection is not to identify the "best" facility. It is to identify the facility that best aligns with business priorities.

The same infrastructure can be excellent for one organization and unsuitable for another.  The quality of the decision depends on the quality of the requirements definition.

Before evaluating Data Centers, organizations should clarify:

The answer may fundamentally alter the selection process.

It is a business decision shaped by priorities, risk appetite and future growth assumptions. In this instance :
